Tampon Having An Apertured Film Cover

A tampon comprising a generally elongated absorbent core with an absorbent material has been patented. The core features an outer cover with an apertured polymeric formed film, which contains a land region with numerous openings. Each opening is defined by a first aperture and side walls that extend in a uniform direction from the first aperture and terminate a second aperture. A portion of the second aperture is bridged by polymeric fibrils and an open area is formed cumulatively by the second apertures. The open area contains less than 35% of the surface area of the apertured polymeric formed film. The outer cover is oriented on the tampon so that the second aperture is adjacent to the absorbent core.
